Gary Kienbaum, Chief Nurse Executive, Retires
Last week we celebrated Gary Kienbaum who served as Maui Health's Chief Nurse Executive for the past four years. Gary's career spans over 40 years and here, at Maui Health, he has been instrumental in guiding nursing through challenging times, including the Maui Health transition in 2017 and the profound impact COVID-19 had on our nursing team. Gary’s efforts and wise counsel as co-leader of Maui Health’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) were also critical in the success of the many processes created and adopted by the EOC. Gary has spent his career advocating for nurses and played a vital in laying the groundwork for our Graduate Nurse Program as part of Maui Health's "grow our own" initiative, mentoring many of our student nurses on the value of their work and the importance of compassionate, safe patient care.
"I've always had great faith in the new generations and the new graduates and what they have to offer. As I get older and try to remember my career, this is the one piece that I want to remember and feel that I've done my best to contribute long-term to both nursing and healthcare," he said.
On behalf of the Maui Health ʻohana, we wish him all the best in his retirement years!
