Hometown Hero - Kamele Detweiler

Hometown Hero Week 10 Winner - Kamele Detweiler

Congratulations to our Hometown Hero week 10 winner, Kamele Detweiler! Kamele was nominated for volunteering her time at Lahaina Baptist Church since the onset of the pandemic back in April. She has been serving the homeless by handcrafting food and making desserts every Wednesday morning and assisting with the church's weekly food drive by directing traffic on Thursday mornings. This experience has taught her about giving back to the community and understanding the importance of what it means to help the needy, especially during these tough times. The church will continue the program until the end of the year, and based on the pandemic, will consider moving forward with it in the New Year. At only 16, Kamele is a true example of an individual who gives unconditionally is a joy to work with.

Thank you Kamele for the dedication you have shown to our community. Through your generosity and selfless acts of giving we are reminded of the importance of compassion for others and that true aloha spirit lives on in Maui County. You are a real life hero and we are forever grateful.
