Hometown Hero - Penny Gilman

Hometown Hero Week 6 Winner - Penny Gilman

Congratulations to our week 6 Hometown Hero winner, Penny Gilman! Penny is a SPED Teacher at Maui High School and created the "Community Dream School" from the ground up for special needs young adults who are between the ages of 18 - 22. Normally, our special needs young adults stay in school from Freshman year to age 22. Penny had the idea to create a school specifically for the special needs young adults. She and her team work so hard to find these amazing young adults jobs in our community where they get paid through a grant. Penny teaches students life skills that they can take with them for the rest of their life.

Thank you Penny for the dedication you have shown to our community. Through your generosity and selfless acts of giving we are reminded of the importance of compassion for others and that true aloha spirit lives on in Maui County, even through the toughest times. You are a real life hero and we are forever grateful.
