Hurricane Douglas Community Update

7/24/2020 at 9:00 PM

Maui Health’s Emergency Management team is closely monitoring Hurricane Douglas and taking actions to prepare our facilities appropriately. All Maui Health facilities are equipped to withstand hurricane-force winds, rain and severe weather situations and backup plans are in place for generator power and other resources, should they be needed.

At this time, all hospital operations are normal. Scheduled procedures will proceed as planned unless the patient or physician chooses to reschedule or there is a disruption of utilities.

If you or a loved one is currently an inpatient at a Maui Health hospital, please be assured that the safety of our patients and employees is our top priority. Our no-visitor policy will remain in place but we encourage patients to remain closely connected to their loved ones through virtual means, including Skype, FaceTime, and/or phone. Our unit nursing stations are still available to take calls, but we ask that you try and limit any non-urgent calls during a potential storm to keep the phone lines open for any emergency communication needs.

We urge our community to stay vigilant and prepared. Sign up to receive emergency updates through the County of Maui website and familiarize yourself with the nearby emergency shelters. While we have the resources and supplies to ensure the safety of our patients, providers and employees, we do not have the capacity to serve as a shelter for the general public.

Additionally, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have guidance for hurricane preparation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
