Don’t drop the ball when it comes to stroke!
Balance - Sudden loss of balance or coordination
Eyes - Sudden trouble seeing or blurred vision in one or both eyes
Face - Facial drooping on one side o the face, or facial numbness
Arm - Sudden weakness or numbness of an arm or leg on one side of the body
Speech - Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding speech
Time - Time to call 911
If you or someone you know is experiencing a stroke, time is of the essence. That's why it's good to know the signs and symptoms. Rest assured, you don't have to leave Maui for excellent stroke care. Maui Memorial Medical Center is recognized by The Joint Commission as a Certified Primary Stroke Center. We're also an American Stroke Association "Get With the Guidelines" Gold Plus, Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll Award recipient for stroke and Gold Plus, Target: HF Honor Roll Award recipient for heart failure.
Maui Health also hosts a monthly virtual stroke support group that provides education, encouragement and other helpful resources to people who are recovering from a stroke, as well as to their families and caregivers. Support group meetings are held every third Wednesday of the month and each meeting focuses on a different topic with guest speakers providing additional expertise on stroke education and prevention.
