Successful Joint Commission (TJC) Accreditation Survey

Congratulations to our Maui Memorial Medical Center team for an incredibly successful Joint Commission accreditation survey!

The Joint Commission (TJC) accreditation survey is conducted every three years and this year our Maui Memorial Medical Center team of employees and physicians demonstrated their outstanding commitment to delivering safe, quality health care for every patient, every time. Because of our team’s dedication, this is the most successful TJC survey in Maui Health history! Thank you to our employees, physicians, and to our leaders for your relentless pursuit of excellence in patient care and experience!

“To pass a survey as rigorous as one from The Joint Commission, especially in the midst of a pandemic, takes sustained, collaborative work on a daily basis,” said Mike Rembis, Maui Health CEO. “I am incredibly proud of our team.”

The Joint Commission is the nation's oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. TJC accredits and certifies more than 22,000 health care organizations throughout the United States. As an independent, not-for-profit organization, TJC seeks to continuously improve health care for the public by evaluating health care organizations to ensure rigorous quality assurance and patient safety standards are being met.

Accreditation from The Joint Commission is awarded upon successful completion of an unannounced, intensive, multiple day, on-site visit and survey. The Joint Commission sends a team of surveyors every three years to evaluate 278 standards, 1,499 elements of performance, and 11 national patient safety goals. More than half of hospitals surveyed each year receives at least one condition level finding and MMMC received zero. Our team’s commitment to the Maui Health mission to provide exceptional health care for the people we serve with compassion, dignity and respect was undeniably clear.

During an exit briefing on Friday July 29, The Joint Commission surveyors praised MMMC’s staff, their confidence, engagement, and most importantly their dedication and knowledge of our patients’ care needs.
