An Evening at Spago 2020
This year's An Evening at Spago event was a huge success!
We’re so grateful for our Foundation members, community partners, and team for their dedication to advancing healthcare on Maui. Because of their commitment and generosity, we’re halfway to our goal of opening the first AHA Chest Pain Center in the entire state of Hawaii.
- Tamar Goodfellow, Maui Health Foundation Board President
Our signature annual fundraiser event was generously underwritten for the 9th year in a row by Wolfgang Puck and Spago Maui and featured a four-course dinner, live auction, and fund-a-need paddle raise. Click here to read more and view photos.
4th Annual Because of You Gala
Our Foundation held its 4th annual Because of You Gala on Oct. 18, 2019, at the Fairmont Kea Lani honoring the much deserving Betty Mae Leis, wife of the late Dorvin D. Leis, and a longtime community supporter. Friends, family, colleagues, Maui Health leaders, providers and other dignitaries filled the ballroom with a very heart-filled tribute to a much loved and respected community member. The event raised an overwhelming $325,000, more than any previous gala. The net proceeds will go toward the Foundation's Patient Resource Assistance fund, which provides home care equipment, transportation and other services for patients in need.
Each year, the Foundation hosts a fundraising gala, honoring someone whose philanthropic and/or community contribution has made a large impact on our island. The honoree designates which hospital department or specific need the event's proceeds will go toward.

Kokua for a Cause
Breast cancer ranks second as a cause of cancer death in women. One in eight women in the United States develop breast cancer. In 2019, there were an estimated 1,280 new cases of breast cancer, and 160 women died of the disease.
That is why Maui Health Foundation is dedicated to our mission to support the health and wellness of our community by providing lifesaving breast cancer screenings to the uninsured or underinsured women of Maui.
Since 2005, Maui Health Foundation has helped nearly 1,160 women on Maui, providing over $404,675 in screenings through our Breast Cancer Screening Program. We would not have been able to do this without the continued, generous support of our community, and that is why it is so important to continue to raise funds for this very important cause.
In the past, our community has shown overwhelming support for our fundraising efforts with the Kokua for Kokonuts Walk for Breast Cancer. We would like to extend our warmest mahalo to everyone who participated, from our sponsors to our walkers to our volunteers.
In 2019, we are proud to announce the launch of our Kokua for a Cause fundraising campaign to support our Breast Cancer Screening Program. The funds raised will go towards providing mammograms and biopsies for women on Maui who would otherwise not be able to afford these lifesaving procedures.
Let's join as a community and kokua to sponsor a mammogram and make a difference in a woman's life!
We ask that you consider becoming a Kokua for a Cause sponsor by donating to Maui Health Foundation. All funds raised will stay on Maui, helping the women of Maui. You can help save lives by providing early detection to Maui's uninsured or underinsured women.
