About Lanai Fitness Challenge


Welcome to the Lana’i Fitness Challenge. We’re extremely excited to announce that we have over 480 participants. As we kick off the challenge on October 1, 2020, we have a few friendly reminders, and would like to share a small change we made in the age groups for categories three and four.

If you have not signed up yet and would like to, make sure to register ASAP today! You can still qualify for the weekly prizes including for total miles/steps as well as the daily social media contest.

First thing, please be sure that you’re registered with our “Move Spring” app, our organization code is “LANAI”. This is a very crucial part of our challenge being that this is how we’re able to track your steps/distance to qualify you to be entered each week. If you’re experiencing some challenges with the app, in connecting or setting up, please feel free to email us at wellnessliving@lanaihealth.org we’ll be happy to assist you and walk you through the proper steps.

In the weekly challenge everyone who meets the minimum steps for each week, will be entered to win a giveaway. Each category will have a winner, we will have a total of four winners each week. Our overall winners will be based on the most steps for the entire month-long challenge. We will have three places for each category in the overall division. In categories 3 and 4 we have revised the ages in both group, please see below for the new age groups.

Categories for the fitness challenge:

#1 Ages 0 to 9: The goal is to hit at least 14,000 steps a week (an average of 2,000 steps/1 mile a day)

#2 Ages 10 to 17: The goal is to hit at least 28,000 steps a week (an average of 4,000 steps/2 miles a day)

#3 Ages 18 to 59:

OCT 1st – 10th

40,000 total steps (an average of 4,000 steps/2 miles per day)

OCT 11th – 17th

42,000 total steps (an average of 6,000 steps/3 miles per day)

OCT 18th – 24th

56,000 total steps (an average of 8,000 steps/4 miles per day)

OCT 25th – 31st

70,000 total steps (an average of 10,000 steps/5 miles a day)

#4 Ages 60 and up: The goal is to hit at least 28,000 steps a week (an average of 4,000 steps/2 miles a day)

Social Media Contest

In our Instagram social media contest, you can enter to win a $25 gift certificate daily! Follow the steps listed below:

  1. Follow all three organizations:
  1. Go to our website: https://www.mauihealth.org/lanaifitness to see the theme/topic of the day.
  2. Post a picture on your Instagram feed, in the correct theme of the day you post.
  3. Tag @lanaiballers @lanaihealth and @WeareMauiHealth (all three)
  4. Use hashtags #lanaifitnesschallenge #lanaiwellness #MauiHealth (all three)
  5. Your account will need to be public to qualify to win. (You can set your account back to private after winners are announced.)

Winners will be announced the following day before 12 noon, on one of the three organization listed above. As a bonus on Fridays you can come to Lanai Community Health Center to pick up a printed copy of the picture that you entered in our social media challenge. Please call LCHC for times of distribution.

About Lanai Fitness Challenge

Maui Health and Lanai Community Health Center are excited to announce a new event, Lanai Fitness Challenge, for the month of October. This will replace the 7th Annual Ohana Wellness Day Color Fun Run. This month-long virtual challenge encourages everyone to be active in any form that they choose: walking, jogging, running, swimming, hiking, biking, etc. This virtual format opens up the challenge to not only Lāna’i residents, but also adults and youth of all ages, across the state and country! We anticipate over 400 participants with equal participation between children (0-18 years old) and adults (19 years old and older). We also encourage families to participate together to encourage and support fun physical activity for keiki and young adults who would normally have physical education and play at school but will no longer have this daily activity because of the statewide distance learning mandates. This event is in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month because preventative care, which includes physical, mental and emotional well-being, saves lives.

Each participant will receive a shirt and will be asked to download the smart phone app ‘Move Spring’. You will be able to log and track your progress in the tracking app and also see how it stacks up against others. If the you do not have a tracker, we have FitBits for purchase at an extremely affordable price.
