Maui Memorial Medical Center (MMMC) is Nationally Recognized with an ‘A’ Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade
Wailuku, Maui, HI (May 10, 2022) – Maui Memorial Medical Center (MMMC) is Nationally Recognized with an ‘A’ Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade.
MMMC received an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for spring 2022. This national distinction recognizes MMMC’s achievements in protecting patients from preventable harm and error in the hospital.
“The MMMC team takes the care and safety of our patients very seriously and we are constantly striving to deliver the highest quality of care,” said Michael Rembis, CEO of Maui Health. “Receiving an A grade from Leapfrog is indicative of that commitment and we are incredibly proud of our quality improvement team and the outstanding efforts from our employees and providers in earning this A.”
The Leapfrog Group is a national organization committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. The Safety Grade assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals throughout the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections, and other harms among patients in their care.
“I am so proud of the incredible work put in by so many people at Maui Memorial that allowed us to reach this goal. Achieving a Leapfrog Grade of A is a testament to the hard work of our nurses, physicians, and administrators who collaborated towards a common goal - to achieve and sustain the highest levels of safety and quality in the care we provide our community,” said Dr. Michael Shea, Maui Health’s Chief Medical Director.
“As our health care system continues to feel the strain of the pandemic, I thank the workforce and leadership of Maui Memorial Medical Center for sustained commitment to patient safety, day in and day out,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “An ‘A’ Safety Grade is an outstanding achievement, and one that is not possible without a 24/7 effort by the entire health care workforce to protect patients from harm. This community should be proud.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
