Maui Health COVID-19 Updates: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Protocol Updated
Maui Health remains committed to the health and safety of our patients, staff and community.
Wailuku, Maui, HI (March 31, 2020) - Effective immediately, new hospital protocol for personal protective equipment (PPE) allows Maui Health employees and providers to wear their own masks. Per latest CDC infection control guidelines, our hospitals will maintain current PPE protocols per droplet and isolation precautions, where hospital-supplied PPE is required to be used. Staff caring for non-COVID-19 patients and/or in clinical areas where masks are not required may choose to use their own personal masks in their work setting. In non-clinical areas and areas where staff has non-COVID-19 patient-facing encounters, employees may also use their personal masks, should they choose. Additionally, homemade masks that have been donated by the community will be made available for clinician and staff usage, while these supplies last.
Along with most other hospitals in the nation, Maui Health is now set up to accept donations of PPE from the community. PPE donations including N95 masks, surgical masks, and non-latex gloves are being collected and used where needed. With the new PPE protocol in place, we are now also gratefully accepting homemade masks for our caregivers to wear, where appropriate.
The Maui Health Foundation is coordinating donation drop off. If you’re interested in donating supplies or contributing to the Maui Health Foundation COVID-19 Relief Fund, please visit mauihealth.org/covidrelief or call 808-442-5191.
Over the past few weeks we have seen a tremendous outpouring of support from our community. We are humbled by the generosity of individuals, nonprofits, and others who are reaching out to offer their assistance. We want to sincerely thank our community for their support and understanding as we focus on keeping our patients and staff safe and healthy.
