Bariatric seminars

Have you been thinking about weight-loss surgery? You can learn more about it by attending a free seminar led by the Bariatric Program Medical Director at Maui Memorial Medical Center (MMMC).

Seminars are held on the last Tuesday of every month at MMMC from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Complimentary valet parking is available at the main lobby entrance.

The seminars discuss the treatment of obesity as a disease. You'll learn about the three types of weight-loss surgery (also called bariatric surgery) that are performed at MMMC and how each of them works to help you lose weight.

Learn about the risks of obesity

Worried about the risks of weight-loss surgery? Living with obesity can be even riskier. People who are obese have about a 1 in 100 chance of dying every year. The risk of dying during weight-loss surgery is about 4 in 1,000. And after the first year post-surgery, your risk of dying is the same as that of any other person in the general population.

Plus, people who are obese often have other weight-related health problems, such as:

At our seminars, you'll learn how weight-loss surgery can improve or even resolve those kinds of health conditions. If you undergo weight-loss surgery, you may even be able to stop taking medications for these health problems for the rest of your life.

Learn about life after bariatric surgery

Your weight-loss journey doesn't end with surgery. At the seminars, you will also go over the lifestyle changes you'll need to make after surgery and how the doctor and his team will be with you all the way.
