At times you may need to have certain laboratory tests done so that your doctor can have a complete picture of your health. It's good to know that you can get them easily, quickly and reliably at Maui Health.
Here's a look at the lab services we offer.
Inpatient lab testing
If you are a patient in one of our hospitals, you can rest assured that a wide range of testing options are available. Your doctor will have access to virtually any lab test needed to make a fast and accurate diagnosis or to help create a treatment plan.
Inpatient lab services are available 24 hours a day at all of our hospitals.

Cholesterol: Learn about your levels
Healthy cholesterol levels can help you avoid heart attack and stroke. Your total cholesterol score is made up of three numbers. Some should be low. Other should be high.
Low-density lipoprotein (LDL)
Type: artery-clogging. Goal: low LDL.
To lower your LDL
- Exercise.
- Eat more fruits and vegetables.
- Manage your weight.
- Choose healthy oils like canola and olive oil.
High-density lipoprotein (HDL)
Type: heart-healthy. Goal: high HDL.
To raise your HDL
- Exercise.
- Manage your weight.
- Eat fatty fish twice per week.
- Eat more vegetables and whole grains.
Triglycerides
Type: artery-clogging. Goal: low triglycerides.
Triglycerides are a type of fat that works with HDL and LDL to make up your total cholesterol.
To lower triglycerides
- Exercise.
- Manage your weight.
- Avoid alcohol.
- Don't smoke.
- Eat fewer carbohydrates.
Check your cholesterol levels. Adults age 20 and older should have their cholesterol checked every four to six years. Your cholesterol levels, along with other risk factors, will help your doctor assess your cardiovascular health.

Outpatient laboratory services
A complete array of lab testing services are also offered on an outpatient basis. Whether your doctor orders a specialized test or you just need your blood drawn as part of a routine physical, we have you covered.
For example, you can receive these and many other tests:
- Lipid panel cholesterol test.
- A1C diabetes blood sugar management test.
- Cardiac blood tests.
- Kidney function tests.
- Thyroid level tests.
- Hepatitis test.
- Rubella test.
Outpatient lab services are available Monday through Friday at the following locations:
Maui Memorial Medical Center (MMMC) Outpatient Clinic from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Lab services available for patients seen by providers of the clinic).
Kula Hospital from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Lanai Community Hospital from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Preparing for a hospital stay?
Many people will need lab tests done prior to receiving treatment at MMMC or Kula Hospital in order to have a procedure done. These tests may include:
- Preoperative testing to help ensure that you are healthy enough for surgery. Preoperative testing is available by appointment at MMMC and Kula Hospital.
- Pre-transfusion testing. Your doctor may order lab tests if you are going to have a blood transfusion. Pre-transfusion testing is offered at MMMC by appointment.
