Hiking

Don't let this happen to you.

Over 10% of our out-of-state patients who fell in 2021, fell from a cliff.

  • Do not get too close to the edge of a cliff- it may crumble.

  • Wet rocks are slippery rocks, walk very carefully and expect to slip if rocks are wet.

  • Flash floods are common. Do not cross streams in the rain.

  • Rain up the mountain from you can cause a flash flood, even if it is not raining where you are- know the weather in that area.

  • Stick to marked trails. Go with an official guide when you can.

  • Plan for the worst- tell someone where you are going and when you will be back, wear bright clothing in case you get stuck and bring extra food and water.

  • Leave early to avoid getting stuck in the dark. If it gets dark, stay put, rather than walking further and getting more lost.
